Welcome to Buon Gusto Tours, the expression of my love for all things Italian—the people, culture, food, wine and certainly the exquisite archaeology, architecture and art! Through our unique small-group gourmet tours, carefully planned with personal experience, I hope for each one of you to discover Italy in a way you wouldn’t be able to on your own or with any other tour company.
I won’t bore you with all the details of my journey to this career, but you could say it was circuitous. After an early career in magazine journalism, I switched hats and decided to pursue my love for travel. I spent several years creating and planning custom European tours and leading small-group tours in Italy, meeting wonderful people along the way; when the time was right, I decided to focus solely on the country that had captured my heart. I can’t wait to help you discover your Italy!
Giusi, our wonderful guide in and around Palermo, has been local licensed guide for more than 20 years and has traveled extensively through Europe as a tour director, beginning when she was just 19. A native of Palermo, she has always had a special passion for the incredibly beautiful art and history of Sicily and Italy and feels privileged to live in one of the richest countries in the world as far as art and history are concerned. When we’re with Giusi, whom I affectionately call “mia cugina,” her enthusiasm is contagious. She wants each of her tour guests to not only see the beautiful sights, but also to “feel” the various cultures that have shaped Sicily over the millenia; she goes out of her way to make us feel at home on her beautiful island!
Don’t expect your guide in Rome to have long black hair and big brown eyes; she is blonde, and her eyes are blue. Not a native Italian, but she loves Rome as much as any native. Ildi’s many years of passionate study of art history, archaeology and religion will bring you back to the times of Julius Caesar, Raphael and Michelangelo; her enthusiasm is contagious! She loves the hidden, secret corners of the medieval city, the theatrical backdrops with amazing fountains, of baroque Rome, the sumptuous decoration of the aristocratic families’ residences opened up to the public with their unique art collections, where history comes alive. During our tours with her, we’ll stop over at the best cafès, ice-cream shops and bakeries to taste what local Romans love to eat. Remember: When in Rome, do as the Romans do! Ready? Andiamo—let’s begin our adventure!
A native of Sorrento, Bart has worked as a professional licensed tour guide for the last 25+ years. After completing nautical college and years abroad traveling and studying languages (he is fluent in German and English, as well as, of course, his native Italian), he returned to his home in Sorrento, where he finds his passion in work and in life. His knowledge of the Campania region is astounding, but he can talk just as enthusiastically about fine wine and Italian sports cars; with his local know-how, he shows us the the most beautiful vantage points for pictures and lets us in on the nuances of local life along the Amalfi Coast. On one of Bart’s tours, we quickly see how proud he is of his home region and how much he enjoys showing it to others, from Sorrento to Capri to Naples to Paestum.
Angelo is our resident expert on all things Pugliese! Born and raised in Puglio, the “heel” of the boot of Italy, he started his career first as an export manager promoting Puglian wines, olive oils and pastas abroad. After several years, he switched gears and received his professional license to be a guide and tour leader within his region, and thus began his adventure in tourism. We are so happy to have met him and to have him as a partner! His enthusiasm for and knowledge of Puglia’s fascinating history and culinary/oenological heritage are what set him apart, but it is his warm personality that will win you over.
Born and raised in Sicily, Luigi has more than 20 years’ experience in the travel industry as both a licensed local guide and a tour leader. Although he now lives in Arizona, Luigi continues to lead tours all over Italy, and we are lucky to have him! Luigi is a wonderful tour leader, addressing archeology, culture, history, architecture, food and wine, government and customs—all with a personal touch and a generous dose of humor. He brings a genuine love of his homeland to our Sicily tours, and his unique insight and exclusive access make our tours once-in-a-lifetime travel experiences!
